An inmate firefighter collapsed and died Saturday during a hike on his first day of training.
Anthony Colacino, 33, began a 7 a.m. hike at the Sierra Conservation Center prison and collapsed about an hour later.
Inmates administered first aid to Colacino until emergency crews arrived, according to the Press-Enterprise.
Colacino was pronounced dead at 8:41 a.m. and officials said foul play is not suspected.
Colacino, who was scheduled for parole in July 2019, was sentenced in 2017 for evading a peace officer, animal cruelty and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
