Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Names Acting Chief

Aug. 9, 2020
Jeff Buchanan, who has been with the Las Vegas department as senior deputy chief since February, has been appointed as acting fire chief following the retirement of Chief William McDonald.

A senior deputy chief has named the acting chief for Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Jeff Buchanan, who had been senior deputy chief, started as Las Vegas' acting chief Sunday. He was named to the position by the city council last week, according to the department.

Buchanan takes over following the retirement of Chief William McDonald, who will become Alameda County's fire chief on Aug. 17. The new acting chief joined the department in February after the retirement of Senior Deputy Chief Eddie Vigil.

Before joining the Las Vegas department, Buchanan served as deputy chief for the Clark County Fire Department since 2014. He also worked for the City of North Las Vegas for 13 years, serving in various positions, including a dual role as fire chief and interim city manager.
