Watch GA Fire Captain Deliver Pledge at Inauguration

South Fulton Fire Capt. Andrea Hall said she was "thrilled and humbled to represent firefighters" by being chosen to give the Pledge of Allegiance at President Joe Biden's inauguration.

A Georgia firefighter helped usher in a new chapter in American politics during President Joe Biden's inauguration Wednesday.

South Fulton Fire Capt. Andrea Hall delivered the Pledge of Allegiance—in English and American Sign Languageon the steps of the Capitol before Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took their oaths of office. Hall was asked to give the pledge by the president of the International Association of Fire Fighters and Biden’s inauguration committee.

"Fire Captain Andrea Hall will lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the inauguration today. The people of Georgia are grateful to the countless first responders who go above and beyond every day to keep our communities safe.

“I am thrilled and humbled to represent firefighters and other frontline workers in the state of Georgia and the City of South Fulton,” she said in a statement last week.

Hall is a 28-year veteran firefighter, and she's the first African American female to hold the rank of captain in the South Fulton Fire Department, according to the City of South Fulton. She also is the president of the South Fulton Professional Firefighters, Local 3920.
