A Detroit fire truck was shot at as it left for an emergency run on Saturday, officials say.
Firefighters turned on the ladder truck's overhead light and sirens about 9:40 p.m. Saturday to exit the fire station that's located on 13939 Dexter Ave., according to a news release from the Detroit Police Department. As the truck tried to leave the station's driveway, a dark-colored Chevrolet Cobalt or Cruze blocked the truck's path.
Firefighters used the fire truck's air horn, and the car moved out of the way, police said in the release. As the truck drove past the Chevrolet sedan, firefighters heard gunshots.
Deputy Detroit Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell said firefighters heard five shots in total.
No one was injured or hurt due to the shooting, police said.
When the firefighters returned, Fornell said they saw minor damage and that bullets had struck the fire truck. Police said they also discovered five shell casings at the scene.
Police said the Chevrolet sedan had a man and a woman inside, who they believe are the shooting suspects. They were last seen in the area of Oakman Boulevard and Dexter Avenue. The Chevrolet driver is a man, and he was last seen wearing an orange shirt or jersey. The female passenger was last seen wearing a turquoise top.
Detroit police are investigating the incident.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's 10th Precinct at 313-596-1040 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
