Dallas Fire-Rescue has released the names of the four firefighters who were injured, three of them critically, when an apartment building exploded last month.
In a media release sent out Wednesday, the department identified the firefighters as Capt. Christopher Gadomski, driver/engineer Ronald W. Hall, and fire and rescue officers Pauline Perez and Andrew D. Curtis.
The four suffered their injuries in a massive explosion after crews were dispatched to a reported gas leak at the Highland Hills Apartments on the morning of Sept. 29. Gadomski and Hall each sustained burn and lower-extremity injuries, Perez suffered burns, and Curtis was treated for a foot injury and released that day.
Dallas Fire-Rescue says that the members' families wish to continue maintaining their privacy at this time, but the department did provide an update saying the three critically injured firefighters are improving at Parkland Hospital.
“The Department is so grateful to the many doctors, nurses and other staff at the Parkland Emergency Department, BioTel, the Trauma Center and Burn Center for the expert care and compassion shown to our members," Dr. Marshal Isaacs, Dallas Fire-Rescue's Medical Director, said in the release. "It is thanks to them and the strength of these firefighters and their families that they are well on the road to recovery."
The cause of the explosion remains undetermined.
