The Burton Fire District on Monday completed a four-year effort to have Jacob Kits placed in every classroom in the district's eight public schools.

A four-year project to provide students in a South Carolina county with better emergency medical protection has been completed.

WTOC News reports that the Burton Fire District in Beaufort County on Monday completed a long-term community risk reduction project to provide life-saving Jacob Kits for all classrooms in the eight public school in the district.

The project was led by Burton Fire District Capt. Dan Byrne, a Firehouse contributor, and a massive community effort that raised $20,000 to purchase the bleeding kits and train teachers in their use. The project won the Burton Fire District a 2018 Thomas Carr Community Service Award.

“When we started this it was a vision, a pipe dream to get all of our schools and all of our classrooms, that was the goal, but to actually cross the finish line," Byrne told WTOC. "What makes this remarkable for us is that it’s been a community driven project. All $20,000 that’s been raised has been raised by the community through donations."
