Firefighters from Canby worked for four minutes to contain a brush fire on Sept. 7.
At 4:45 p.m. Canby Fire was dispatched to an out of control brush fire at the intersection of South Highway 170 and South Heinz Road in rural Canby.
Fire crews found a clover field that was being worked on with a combine harvester that had an area about 50 feet by 100 feet burning and spreading to the south. There were no structures threatened, however, spot fires were a concern, especially to homes down wind.
Firefighter used their wildland fire engine with four-wheel to access the fire. In addition, a 3,000-gallon water tender was summoned to the scene to fill the engine's tank and provide a deluge of water to the deeply seated areas.
The fire was placed under control in approximately 40 minutes.
The cause of the fire is most likely from the muffler of the combine harvester contacting dried cut clover.
