TX Rollover Crash Leaves Four FFs Injured

June 11, 2018
Four firefighters were injured when Fort Worth Engine 20 was involved in a crash while the crew was responding to a reported house fire.

A collision between a pickup truck and a Fort Worth pumper Monday sent five people to the hospital early Monday afternoon.

Fort Worth Engine 20 was part of an assignment dispatched to a house fire just after noon when it was involved in a rollover crash.

The apparatus was eastbound on Randol Mill Road and as it entered the intersection, it collided with a pickup truck that was making a right turn from Handley-Ederville Road.

"The driver of the pumper tried to swerve to miss the pickup, but it struck the truck straight on at the driver's side back wheel," Fort Worth Capt. Kyle Falkner told Firehouse.com. "When the two trucks collided, the fire truck turned on its side."

Fire and EMS crews were called to the scene to tend to the injured.

One firefighter and the driver of the pickup suffered non-life threatening injuries. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries and all five were taken to Harris Hospital.

"We're lucky there were not any significant injuries," Falkner said. "As is always our priority is the public, and in this instance we began to treat the driver of the pickup immediately."

Falkner said the reported house fire that crews were dispatched to was minor and quickly contained by other units.

The Fort Worth Police Department is conducting an investigation into the crash.

"We always remind folks that they need ot be aware of their surroundings on the road and they need to be aware of emergency vehicles so they can pull over or stop for them," Falkner said.
