FL Firefighters Injured in Apparatus Crash

July 8, 2020
An interstate crash of a fire apparatus left three Jacksonville firefighters with injuries that were not serious, according to a department spokesman.

Three Jacksonville firefighters received minor injuries Wednesday afternoon when the fire truck they were in crashed on Interstate 95 on the city's Southside, fire officials confirmed.

The crash saw the fire engine end up in the trees off the interstate south of Emerson Street and overturn just before 3 p.m., according to images from Florida Department of Transportation cameras near the scene.

A Jacksonville Fire and Rescue spokesman said the injuries were not serious, and some of the firefighters had already been released from Baptist Hospital.

The crash caused big backups on the interstate heading into town on Wednesday afternoon, traffic camera images showing one lane shut down as a huge tow truck pulls the damaged fire engine out.

The fire department will update the incident later Wednesday.
