Three NC Firefighters Injured in Apparatus Rollover

Sept. 28, 2020
The China Grove firefighters were on their way to an emergency call when the driver of the apparatus lost control and the vehicle overturned, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Three North Carolina firefighters were injured after their apparatus rolled over on the way to a call last week.

The accident involving a China Grove Fire Department apparatus happened just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, and firefighters were believed to be responding to one of multiple crashes that were caused by rain in Rowan County, the Salisbury Post reports. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the engine's driver lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled over.

The three firefighters had been wearing their seat belts at the time and were able to exit the vehicle on their own. They suffered minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals and released, an online update by the fire department stated.

“We’re very fortunate nobody was hurt worse,” China Grove Town Manager Ken Deal told the Post.

It's not known if the weather and slick road conditions contributed to the rollover. The accident is under investigation.
