While FDNY crews were operating in the Bronx, a man damaged an apparatus windshield with a brick and then tried to attack firefighters with a knife.

While FDNY crews were operating at a scene in the Bronx on Thursday morning, a man broke an apparatus windshield with a brick and then tried to attack firefighters with a knife.

Details of the the incident were recounted in a Facebook post, which says that crews from Engine 90 and Ladder 41 were responding to an incident when a man wielding a knife began threatening to harm members before throwing a brick and breaking the driver's side windshield on one of the rigs.

At that point, the post alleges that the man attempted to stab members of Ladder 41, who were able to safely secure themselves inside the apparatus, leaving the disturbed man to wildly strike the side of the vehicle.

It's unclear what transpired next, but the post says that members eventually put themselves in harms way again when they had to administer CPR to the man before he was taken into police custody. There were no details offered on how the man came to be in distress.

All members at the scene were uninjured, but both rigs were taken out of service, which complicated the response to a basement fire at a nearby three-story structure later that afternoon.
