Two Florence Fire Department firefighters were able to jump out of the way of an SUV that lost control and slammed into a rig outside the department's Weaver Road station.

An SUV slammed into an apparatus at a Kentucky fire station Monday, nearly hitting two firefighters.

The accident happened at about 3:45 p.m. at Florence Fire Department's Weaver Road station, WXIX-TV reports. According to police, the driver of an SUV lost control of his vehicle when his foot slipped off the accelerator.

Two firefighters were able to jump out of the way of the SUV before it crashed into an apparatus. The rig sustained extensive damage, adn the repairs it will need will keep it out of service for a while, Chief Scott Kroll said.

“As bad as this incident could have been, I am just thankful that no one was injured,” he told WXIX. “To have two of our personnel standing next to the truck when it was struck and not have something tragic happen is a small miracle.”

The SUV driver was not cited in the incident.
