One person died following a collision with a North Carolina fire apparatus Thursday.
West Buncombe Fire Department's Ladder 5 was responding to a possible structure fire at Erwin High School in Asheville, Chief Dennis A. Fagnant Jr. stated in an online post. As it was headed to the call, the apparatus collided with another vehicle at an intersection into Eblen Intermediate School.
"Our Firefighters immediately rendered emergency care to the driver of the other vehicle," Fagnant stated. "The subject was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries."
The driver of the other vehicle was later pronounced dead, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol spokesperson told WLOS. No firefighters were injured in the accident.
The highway patrol is investigating the collision, Fagnant stated.
