A Pennsylvania ambulance sustained significant damage when an SUV going in the wrong direction collided with the unit early Sunday.
The incident happened in Bristol Township shortly after 12:30 a.m. as a Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad ambulance was returning to the station, Levittown Fire Co. No. 2 stated in an online update. That's when a dark-colored SUV that was traveling the wrong way struck the ambulance head-on.
The crash caused severe damage to both vehicles, according to the department. The EMS workers aboard the ambulance were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the SUV driver was not seriously hurt.
“One thing that is important to note is if our driver had responded differently, the other car would have hit at a more lateral angle, possibly causing major injury to the crew members,” Levittown-Fairless Hills Chief Joel Rutkowski told. LevittownNOW.com.
Bristol Township police are investigating the incident.
