Layton City, UT, Firefighters Seriously Injured in Ambulance Crash

A collision between an SUV and a Layton City ambulance transporting a critical patient left the ambulance on its side.

Four members of the Layton City Fire Department sustained serious injuries Monday evening when their ambulance was involved in a rollover crash.

The crew was transporting a 90-year-old patient requiring critical care treatment when it was struck by an SUV around 6:30 p.m. at 5600 South and Harrison Boulevard in South Ogden, the fire department released

The force of the collision resulted in the ambulance rolling over.

Crews removed the original patient from the ambulance and turned them over to another ambulance crew to complete the high-risk transport to the hospital. 

Fire officials said all four fire department members on the ambulance suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

The SUV that struck the ambulance was occupied by six people and the driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The passengers were evaluated on scene and released.

Investigators from the South Ogden Police Department are looking into the circumstances of the crash.
