St. George, UT, Firefighter Cited after Brakeless Antique Rig Crash

Nov. 1, 2024
The firefighter, who suffered a back injury, couldn't stop the St. George engine at a stop sign.

A St. George firefighter injured in a crash after the brakes failed on an antique apparatus was issued a ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The 1948 Fox, with Firefighter Brandon Redd behind the wheel, was going down a hill on a parkway when the brakes went out.

As the rig ran through a stop sign, it was hit in the driver's side by a Ford SUV, according to Fox 13.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker said the historic fire engine is a total loss.

A Washington County sheriff's deputy charged Redd for running the stop sign.

He said even if a driver loses their brakes and loses control, they still are held responsible for a crash if they go past a stop sign or light.

The crash is still under investigation.
