Dec. 20, 2021
More than 300 fire service members who ascended beyond firefighter responded to Firehouse’s second survey of women in the fire service.

From women who began their fire service career without any thought of becoming an officer to women who targeted that from the outset, 319 fire service members who ascended beyond firefighter responded to Firehouse’s second survey of women in the fire service.

Firehouse and Endeavor Research invited women officers to participate in polling regarding these individuals’ experiences in their pursuit of increased responsibility during their career. Career personnel made up 59 percent of respondents; combination paid/volunteer personnel represented about 21 percent; and volunteer personnel made up 17 percent. About 3 percent of respondents serve in another type of department.
