Few fire service topics garner more interest from Firehouse readers or are addressed by more Firehouse columnists and article authors than mentoring. This is because the potential benefits of mentors helping in various ways can have a positive influence on a department, its effectiveness, and its recruitment and retention of staff.
Over a five-week period, Firehouse, in collaboration with Endeavor Business Intelligence, asked its subscribers and other members of the fire and EMS community to share their experiences and thoughts about mentoring and its application in fire departments. Nearly 850 people completed the survey.
