Two MD Firefighters Indicted for Fight at Fire Scene

Two Prince George's County firefighters were indicted for a fight with another firefighter at a Hyattsville house fire. 

Firefighters Chris Kelly and Jeffry Miller, who volunteer with the West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fire Department - Company 28 - were indicted on multiple counts of second-degree assault, interfering with a firefighter and misconduct in office. 

Kelly and Miller got into a fight with a career firefighter from Landover Hills Volunteer Fire Department - Company 30 - as crews prepared to enter a burning home on Dec. 8, 2015, according to WTOP.

The crew from Landover Hills arrived first, but Kelly, who wasn't full dressed out in PPE, blocked the door of the home, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.

A struggle ensued between Kelly and the career firefighter. Kelly hit the career firefighter and knocked her off the porch.

When the career firefighter returned to enter the home, Miller grabber her off the porch. 

Speaking about Kelly and Miller, Alsobrooks said “their main responsibility was to help anyone in need and extinguish the fire, not argue over who goes inside first.”
