Anger and sadness are being felt in a South Carolina community this week after a memorial to fallen firefighters was vandalized.
The Anderson County Fire Fighters Memorial, located in a scenic waterfront spot in Chris Taylor Memorial Park in Anderson, had a portion of it defaced by spray paint this past weekend, with the underlined letters "VG" covering the dedication at the center of the brick memorial.
The center plaque dedication that was defaced reads "Remembering those that gave their lives protecting people and property."
The graffiti was washed away Monday, but vague remnants of it could still be seen in a photograph posted to the memorial's Facebook page with the message "Could still use a power wash."
The same "VG" graffiti was also spray-painted over a plaque dedicating the park to Chris Taylor, a fallen police officer who died in April 1993.
"There is absolutely no place for this in our community," reads a post on the memorial's Facebook page. "This will not be tolerated. We ask for swift prosecution of those responsible for the vandalism in Chris Taylor Park."
