CT Man Impersonated FF, Had Fake FBI Badge

June 09 -- NORWICH, CT -- Police said a 26-year-old Norwich man pulled over in Montville after driving a vehicle with active lights and sirens lied about being a fire captain and was later found to be in possession of weapons and a fake FBI badge.
At approximately 7:58 a.m. on Friday, state police stopped a Volkswagon Jetta driven by Steven Young of 44 Bentley Ave., Apt. 1. Troopers said Young's vehicle had active lights and sirens running in the area of Route 2A and had passed several motorists in a no-pass zone while traveling "erratically."
Police said Young, who had an emergency medical kit and portable radio, told troopers he was the captain of the Cohanzie Fire Department en route to an active fire. An investigation determined Young had no affiliation with the department.
A female passenger told police Young was being investigated by Norwich police on domestic violence allegations.
After Young was taken into custody, a search of his home by law enforcement officials turned up a facsimile FBI badge, as well as various other law enforcement articles and weapons.
Young was charged with interfering with an officer, criminal impersonation, illegal use of flashing lights, passing in a no-passing zone and illegally operating a vehicle while under suspension.
Young was being held on a $10,000 bond pending his arraignment June 22 at Norwich Superior Court.
