FL Firefighter Fired for Accessing Cell Phones

July 12 -- OCALA, FL - A 28-year-old city of Ocala firefighter arrested Friday after a fellow firefighter reported he had accessed his phone and viewed private material has been fired.
Ocala Fire Rescue Spokeswoman Ashley Lopez said Wednesday that fire officials met with Eric William Hersh and he was released from the agency.
Hersh told police he went through the cellphones and images of about six firefighters with whom he works. He said he used AirDrop to send the photographs to himself and sometimes made pictures or videos of images with his cellphone.
According to his arrest report, Hersh is charged with offense against users of electronic devices
In an interview with detectives, Hersh said he is addicted to pornography and is seeking counseling.
Detectives said the investigation remains ongoing and that anyone who believes his or her cellphone may have been accessed by Hersh can call 368-5406.
