CLEVELAND—Since the start of the year, there’s been a lot of talk about when Stipe Miocic might step back in the Octagon. But the UFC heavyweight champion isn’t worried about fighting right now.
Miocic, who also works as a firefighter with the Valley View Fire Department, is more concerned with helping those in need during the coronavirus outbreak.

“Honestly I’m not even worried about that,” Miocic told UFC reporter Megan Olivi in a recent video interview. “I’m worried about firefighting, and the paramedics out there and I got to do what I got to do. There’s so many people out there that need help. There’s people that are going to stay at home and some of them might get sick. I’m putting myself in harm’s way and I’m OK with that, but I’ve got to make sure when I’m home at the end of the day my family is OK.”
Miocic admitted that a trilogy fight between himself and Daniel Cormier could take place this summer. However, the UFC recently postponed its next three fight cards with more scheduling changes likely on the way.
Cormier has said if he doesn’t get a rematch against Miocic, and soon, he’s likely to retire from mixed martial arts.
