The "Professionalism and Leadership in Roadway Incident Response" module looks at "soft skills" and how to use them at roadway incidents.

A new online training module concerning "soft skills" needed during roadway incidents has been released by the Responder Safety Learning Network.

Titled "Professionalism and Leadership in Roadway Incident Response," the module examines the following issues:

  • What it means to be a professional
  • How to demonstrate professionalism
  • How organizations can be professional
  • Where professionalism and leadership intersect
  • How to grow new leaders
  • How to exercise leadership at roadway incident scenes

Organizational practices and individual soft skills are emphasized in the module, which also will discuss how to respond professionally to common, real-life roadway challenges. And first responders will learn from five leaders, including Chief Denny Compton, Gordon Graham, Jack Sullivan, Joe Kroboth III and Chief Judy Thill.

The module, which can be completed in less than an hour, can be found for free at the Responder Safety Learning Network's website. A National TIM Training Certificate also can be earned in a fully online program.
