At least four current and former Nevada firefighters are under investigation by the DEA stemming from a 2020 drug overdose.
According to KLAS-TV, North Las Vegas firefighter Christopher Candito, 33, was arrested and charged in July in connection with the death of his wife, Tiffany Slatsky. She died from an opioid overdose Feb. 23, 2020.
Although they have yet to be charged in the incident, Capt. Nicholas Robison and firefighters Andrew Clapper and Andrew Stocker are being investigated by authorities, the TV station reports. As of Tuesday, Robison and Clapper—as well as Candito—were no longer with the department. Stocker was still a North Las Vegas firefighter, but he was on administrative leave.
On the day Tiffany Slatsky died, Canditio had gone to a North Las Vegas fire station to pick up Narcan after his wife overdosed in their Henderson home, according to police. A friend called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers that Slatsky wasn't breathing and was unconscious.
She taken to the hospital, where she later died.
Days earlier, Candito and Slatsky, along with Clapper, were at a party hosted by Stocker. According to court documents, Candito and Clapper exchanged text messages before the party concerning the sale of controlled substances, such as oxycodone and morphine capsules.
“Candito worked, socialized, possessed and conspired with fellow firefighter Andrew Clapper to conduct narcotics trafficking activities that ultimately led to the overdose death of his wife," court documents stated.
Authorities also claim there is evidence that other drug sales happened between Candito and Clapper in late 2019, according to court documents. And Robison was a party to these incidents, a DEA agent told a Clark County grand jury.
Candito was indicted by a grand jury on murder and burglary charges, KLAS reports.
