NY FFs on Leave of Absence Cite Concerns with Chief

Fifteen firefighters with the Village of Minoa Fire Department took leaves of absence, saying there are concerns with the new fire chief.

More than a dozen Village of Minoa firefighters took a leave of absence after they expressed frustration during a recent village board meeting over how the department is being run by their new fire chief.

No one has stated exactly what has taken place to raise the ire of firefighters, according to officials.

Mayor William Brazill stated an investigation was under way and that he could not comment because it is a personnel matter, according to WSYR.

“I felt as if I were to stay in this department and respond to calls I would not feel safe riding those fire trucks," former firefighter Tyler McTomany told the television station. "I would not feel safe protecting the public and with the current leadership and the strain on the department I felt like it was unsafe."

McTomany recently resigned over the on-going controversy.

During the meeting, homeowners raised concerns regarding fire coverage and Brazill assured residents the village has adequate coverage to handle emergencies.

Brazill said he hoped to have the investigation concluded in the next 10 days.
