OH Mayor Names New Fire Chief

Feb. 1, 2022
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz named Allison Armstrong as the next fire chief of Toledo Fire and Rescue Department.

Toledo Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Allison Armstrong was named Toledo Fire Chief by Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz during a recent press conference.

Armstrong will be the first woman to lead Toledo Fire and Rescue Department and will begin her new role on Feb. 4, according to WTOL11.

"I feel honored, I feel grateful," Armstrong said. "I'm excited to be a mentor to girls and young women. I think it helps when they see someone in these positions, and they realize they can do this and it's not just for boys."

Armstrong joined the department in July 2000, was promoted to lieutenant in 2010, captain in 2011, and battalion chief in 2019.

She has a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Mercy College and a Master of Health Informatics from the University of Cincinnati.

Mayor Kapszukiewicz said there was nine applicants for the job, including five internal candidates, one from in state and three from out of state.
