After a long dispute between the Pittsburgh Firefighters Union and the City of Pittsburgh, an arbitrator has ruled against the city’s residency mandate.
The ruling by a neutral arbitrator determined the city did not have the right to restrict residency.
The arbitrator has now issued a cease-and-desist order on the city’s enforcement of residency for its firefighters, according to KDKA 2 Pittsburgh.
Union President Ralph Sicuro says he will maintain his residency in the city. He said the city's over 650 firefighters should be free to choose where they want to live.
Firefighters now have the same residency requirements as city police who had their requirement lifted four years ago.
