Laredo Fire Department Capt. Raul G. Valle recognized at city hall for making himself available to co-workers around the clock.

Jul. 20—After 20 years of being part of the Laredo Fire Department, Captain Raul G. Valle was recognized at city hall this week for his work during the second quarter of 2022.

Valle's time at Fire Station 8 sees him work alongside his team and provide help as the department's chaplain.

" Capt. Valle is an example to all officers and firefighters while helping the citizens of Laredo. His professionalism and efforts are recognized by his supervisors and fellow firefighters," said the city in a statement.

Aside from being the department's chaplain, where he offers emotional and mental support to his teammates amid their demanding career, he is also part of the training division with peer support.

"He continues to be an example for all officers and all firefighters out there," Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Perez said.

Valle said he was humbled to receive the recognition considering his work and the work by his team is a collaborative effort. Currently working at the Del Mar station, he is the lead of the peer support group, which is vital for the behavioral health of the firefighters of Laredo.

He attributed his work to Jesus Christ and the teamwork throughout the entire department. Aside from their support, during the meeting he received the support of his family which gathered with him during his time of recognition.

Fire Chief Guillermo Heard praised Valle's dedication, highlighting his around-the-clock support and accessibility.

"He's an integral part of our fire department," Heard said. "He's always there for our firefighters, and he is one of the reasons why we are doing so well in the department. He keeps our wellbeing and our mental health well."

Between the many members of the fire department, a constant vigilance is expressed by its members to uphold their mission statement. It reads:

"To reduce and prevent the loss of life and property in the community due to fire, medical emergencies and other natural or man-made disasters and catastrophes. This is accomplished through direct mitigation during these types of occurrences and through community wide prevention efforts. The Laredo Fire Department will assume command of such incidents and will staff and maintain the force with professional, highly trained personnel."
