Aug. 29, 2024
Ex-Fire Chief William Storrs and his wife, Nicole, the former treasurer, allegedly spent $125,000 for personal use.

The Marbletown Volunteer Fire Department has filed a lawsuit against its former fire chief and his wife, accusing them of embezzling funds.

William Storrs and his wife, Nicole, are accused of bilking the department for about $125,000, according to Fingerlakes1.

The couple used department funds for personal expenses, including purchases at businesses, restaurants, and even a vehicle down payment, according to the suit.

Storrs served as the department’s chief from January until recently, following his tenure as treasurer from 2020. His wife took over as treasurer when he became chief and held the position until late July.

The alleged thefts occurred between 2021 and 2023. Unauthorized cash withdrawals and transfers were allegedly placed in the couple's personal accounts.
