A former volunteer firefighter who started shooting at a jeep full of teenagers who were caught trespassing on the property of the Harwood Volunteer Fire Company in Hazle Twp. last year has pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault.
James Anthony Lockwood, 34, was accused of shooting at the vehicle after spotting it in the area of 852 Old St., Hazle Twp., around 11:20 p.m. June 15.
Troopers said Lockwood yelled for the teens to leave the property and then began shooting at the Jeep as it accelerated toward the gate.
No injuries were reported, but one bullet entered the hood horizontally and impacted the battery, troopers said.
Lockwood was removed as a volunteer firefighter with the department after the incident.
He was scheduled to stand trial starting Friday but instead pleaded guilty to a felony count of attempted aggravated assault in exchange for prosecutors dropping additional charges against him.
Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough accepted the plea and set sentencing for Feb. 20.
Lockwood remains free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
