Firehouse's Harry Carter Made President of IFE USA Branch

Firehouse Magazine Contributing Editor Dr. Harry R. Carter was installed as President of the United States of America Branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) of Great Britain on Saturday August 17, 2013 at the association's annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois.  Dr. Carter had previously served as the Vice President and Secretary of the association.

A well-known veteran of 49 years service in the fire and emergency service world, Dr. Carter has spent a long and active firefighting career in the military, volunteer, and career segments of the fire service.  He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissions for Howell Township Fire District #2 and is an Ex-Chief, Active Life Member and Chaplain of the Adelphia Fire Company.  He served more than 26 years in the Newark, New Jersey Fire Department, retiring as a Battalion Chief in 1999.

He is a Life Member of the National Fire Protection Association and Past President and Life Member of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors.  He is a retired military officer and formerly served as Fire Marshal for the New Jersey Division of Military and Veteran's Affairs.

During the course of his writing career he has authored or co-authored a total of 14 texts and more than 2,500 magazine and journal articles.  He holds six college and university degrees and has taught at a wide variety of venues over the past 36 years.  He has served as a Contributing Editor for Firehouse Magazine since 1990.
