50th Annual Police & Fire Championships Set for June
What started off as the “California Police Olympics” in 1967, has grown into a national competition now including all 50 States, Puerto Rico, and the US Territories. It also bears a new name - The United States Police & Fire Championships.
The United States Police & Fire Championships are scheduled for June 18 – June 25, 2016 in San Diego County. This Olympic-style event is open to individuals representing firefighters, law enforcement, and officers from corrections, probation, border protection, immigration and customs from across the country who compete in more than 45+ sporting events at 35+ venues.
“There is no better tribute to Duke Nyhus, founder of these games, than to see his dream and vision of sportsmanship and camaraderie continue to grow among the firefighting and law enforcement communities across the country” said Mike Graham, President of the California Police Athletic Federation, the governing body for the championships.
Sports ranging from traditional events such as Archery and Track & Field to modern events like Toughest Competitor Alive, Dodgeball, Cornhole and Fitness Throw Down. Venues are spread through-out San Diego County, from Oceanside to Otay Mesa, from Santee to La Jolla, athletes and volunteers alike will have the opportunity to experience the very best that San Diego has to offer.
In 2016 we will be celebrating 50 Years of Competition and we anticipate an all-time high in athlete participation. To celebrate the 50 Years of Competition, we will be having an Official Opening Weekend which includes:
Opening Ceremony, Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, we have secured the attendance of the Customs & Border Protection Air and Marine Honor Guard and a scheduled a Parade of States.
We will also spend Father’s Day at PETCO Park, Sunday, June 19, 2016 – Join us for a very special USPFC Night at PETCO Park as the San Diego Padres take on the Washington Nationals. Reserved section and all you can eat and drink for only $40 (a $63 Value)
The public is invited to attend and cheer for their favorite law enforcement or firefighter personnel at any of the sporting venues. All events are open and free to the public.
