Barry University’s School of Professional and Career Education (PACE) offers the Firefighter I &II Program, an intensive 396-hour course that meets the requirements for certification as a firefighter, set forth by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training State Fire Marshal Office. It is also offering a Paramedic program.
In this the firefighter program, applicants will: Prepare for the written and practical portions of the State Firefighter I &II Certification Examination; Gain hands-on skills development; ladder usage, hose layout, hazardous material, extrication, breathing apparatus, safety techniques and more; and participate in field-related activities.
The Firefighter I & II Program is offered part time and takes approximately six months to complete. The course is scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 10:30 and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Through Barry University PACE Program, Frank Rooney School of Professional and Career Education a train to be a paramedic class will begin on May 9. More information can be found at www.barry.edu/pace.
With a certificate from Barry University’s Paramedic program, participants can respond to the needs of their communities in a fast-grown, crucial field.
Barry is committed to applicants’ success, providing small classes and a low student-to-instructor ratio of 6-to-1 in clinicals. Barry’s program exceeds national requirements giving applicants a strong foundation to sit for NREMT certification exam and embark on a rewarding career.
The course sessions last 16 months meeting twice a week with day and evening options available. Applicants will learn from experienced doctors, nurses and paramedics, develop technical, communication and problem-solving skills, complete externships and ambulance/fire-rescue rides with partner institutions in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Applicants will earn academic credit toward a bachelor’s degree from Barry University PACE, through a program approved by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
