Nearly two dozen Louisville firefighters were recognized for their outstanding service protecting the city.
WLKY reports that the Louisville Fire Department held a promotion ceremony at Metro Hall to name one new assistant chief, five majors, seven captains and nine sergeants.
Many of the 22 firefighters recognized on Monday risked their lives last week to battle a massive fire at a downtown Louisville sushi restaurant.
"Within two minutes, you all were on the scene," said Mayor Craig Greenberg.
"In all that night, we had 100 firefighters and 15 fire trucks with other apparatus putting out the fire and doing whatever it took to save lives and limit damage to property."
The Louisville Fire Department responds to nearly 50,000 incidents a year.
