Oct. 1—HOLLAND — A 60-year-old Grundy County firefighter accused of setting a string of arson fires has been arrested on 13 counts of arson and one count of reckless use of fire or explosives, according to the Grundy County Sheriff's Office.

Kendall Eugene Rhoads, a Holland fireman the past six years, was arrested Thursday after a five-month investigation into a series of fires in ditches next to corn fields and at buildings on abandoned properties.

Authorities determined the Grundy Center man, who lives in the 700 block of M Avenue, would respond with the fire department and assist in putting the fires out. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 319-824-6933.

At least one of the fires allegedly set by Rhoads is believed to have resulted in an abandoned barn and power lines catching fire. These incidents reportedly happened in July, August and September with the exception of one, according to court records.

The affidavits stated he drove a grey 2019 Ford F150 SuperCrew to the various sites, should know the implications of setting these fires and admitted to the crimes after being read his Miranda rights.
