New Fire Department Being Established in Rossford, OH

June 25, 2024
Rossford plans to hire 15 full-time firefighters for its standalone fire department.

Rossford is hanging out a 'Help Wanted' sign.

That move comes after city officials voted Monday night to  establish a full-time, standalone fire department, WTOL reported.

The department also will maintain partnerships with neighboring communities and explore the potential for a joint district.

Firefighters will  "work with our neighbors to partner for joint response zones, like automatic aid, and to be the leaders for the development with a long-term goal for regionalization," said council member Caroline Eckel, a member of a committee that explored solutions.

The panel studying the staffing shortage issues included three firefighters, three civilians and three council members.

Fire Chief Josh Drouard, who retired earlier this year after 37 years on the department. told the council that some shifts had no firefighters.
