FDNY Crews Isolate Charred E-Bikes after Queens Fire

Aug. 22, 2024
It was the second time firefighters have tackled an e-bike fire in the garage.

An overnight fire tore through an e-bike shop in Queens, leaving behind a pile of scorched and twisted metal.

"It was the second time that this garage caught on fire. The first time it was a few months ago. The first was definitely worse but this one isn't good either," a resident told a reporter.

FDNY crews needed to isolate the e-bikes once they were removed in a precautionary effort to prevent a secondary fire.

"The messaging has to be out there that we shouldn't be charging these during sleeping hours. We shouldn't have them by the doors that are the exits from our multiple dwellings. We want to use them safely and we always want to make sure we're using an approve product that has been tested by a certification agency," Deputy Fire Chief George Healy, said.
