AUSABLE — A fire early Thursday morning in the Town of AuSable left two people dead, State Police said.
An autopsy performed Thursday identified the deceased as Elizabeth L. Shalton, age 65, and William E. Regazzi, age 65, according to a release by State Police.
Clinton County Director of Emergency Services Eric Day said the address of the fire was 68 Margaret Street.
The autopsy was performed at Glens Falls Hospital by Forensic Pathologist Kristen Landi, Medical Examiner.
The cause and manner of death are still pending.
Police said they responded to the fully engulfed structure fire at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday.
Local fire departments extinguished the fire and were able to enter the residence where the two deceased individuals inside were discovered, police said.
Mutual Aid was provided by departments from Ausable Forks, Peru and Willsboro, Day said.
South Plattsburgh responded to the scene with an air truck and with an engine to Keeseville station for standby.
State Police spoke with the New York State Fire Investigators at the scene, who determined the fire was accidental and showed no signs of suspicious activity.
The Essex County Coroner was present at the scene, who ordered the removal of the deceased.
This is an ongoing investigation.
