Sprinklers doused a fire at the Clay Amazon warehouse and was reopened after water runoff was cleaned up.

Clay, N.Y. — A Clay Amazon Warehouse will reopen Saturday after a fire closed it earlier in the week.

Water from putting out a fire damaged two floors of the building and the warehouse wasn’t able to reopen until the sprinkler system was reset.

The fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at 7211 Morgan Road and was mostly suppressed by the building sprinklers, said Deputy Doug Roser, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

The warehouse will reopen Saturday afternoon, said Austin Stowe, a spokesperson for Amazon.

Friday evening, Stowe said that workers would continue to be paid for any shifts disrupted by the closure. The warehouse employs over 3,000 workers.

Amazon customers can check for any updates to their package’s delivery status on their account, Stowe said.

The $350 million center, one of the largest warehouses in the world, opened in 2022. It covers 3.8 million square feet.
