State College police told WJAC-TV Monday that two recent patrol vehicle fires are likely connected.
Investigators said an unmarked police car was totaled after someone intentionally set fire to the front end of the sedan just before 4 a.m. Sunday.
On June 21, officials said someone left a bottle-bomb on the trunk of another unmarked cruiser parked in the same spot.
"I don't want to go as far as saying that we're being targeted, because weve had an inordinate number of fires in the last couple of months, said State College Police Chief Tom King. I think theres some focus on the borough, or particularly the Police Department.
King said evidence from Sundays torched Ford Taurus has been sent to a state police crime lab for analysis.
Officials said more than two dozen suspicious nuisance fires have been set in the borough in recent months.
A blaze that scorched the exterior of a Parkway Plaza apartment high-rise was ruled suspicious, while a fire in the exterior wall of the nearby Pizza Hut was recently ruled arson.
Centre County Crimestoppers is offering a reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest in the cop car fires.
