NEW MILFORD, Conn.
--
New Milford police said firefighters from multiple towns are on scene of a fire at the Kimberly Clark Plant.
Plant spokesperson Dan Lachmann said that workers noticed smoke and fire coming from a machine around 7 a.m. Sunday.
Lachmann said plant employees enacted their emergency protocol plan and when they realized the fire was to large for them to handle they call 911.
Fire damage has been contained to one section of the first floor and part of the basement, according to Lachmann.
Lachmann said products were lost and the plant will assess how the fire could effect production.
According to Lachmann there was about 25 employees in the work area at the time of the fire and all of them got out safely.
The plant employs 350 workers and they primarily make Kleenex tissues.
Lachmann said that officials will come in to check out the building, but he hopes to be back up and running as soon as possible. With cold and flu season approaching, this is their busy time of the year . The plant is located on Pickett District Road off Routes 202 and 7.
