Sprinkler Prevents Fire In Downtown Las Vegas High-Rise

Nov. 29, 2006
When firefighters arrived, they found that the fire had been extinguished by an automatic fire sprinkler on the balcony.

An automatic fire sprinkler doused a fire on the outside balcony of a tenth floor condominium at Soho Loft Las Vegas building yesterday morning. Damage was minimal. The fire started on the tenth floor balcony of the 16-story concrete building at approximately 11 a.m. Monday. People saw smoke coming from the balcony and called firefighters.

When firefighters arrived, they found that the fire had been extinguished by an automatic fire sprinkler on the balcony, preventing the fire from extending to the inside of the building. Firefighters found wicker furniture, which was burning, on the balcony. There was a very slight smoky haze inside the condo.

The cause of the fire is not known. No one was injured during the incident.
