Woman Injured in South Carolina House Fire

-- Dec. 20--A woman and her dog survived a house fire, but the woman had to be transported to the hospital for what was described as serious injuries. Firefighters were called to a home on the 7200 block of Venus Road, off of Leesburg Road, at 11:05 this morning, said Brick Lewis, a Columbia Fire Department spokesman. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming out of the house. The woman and her dog were in the back yard, Lewis said.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation, Lewis said. Fire investigators believe the blaze started in or around a front bedroom.
