FORT WORTH — River Oaks police smashed out a bedroom window and pulled a disabled man out of a burning home early Wednesday on the border of Fort Worth and River Oaks, fire officials said.
The three officers who had arrived before Fort Worth fire crews were told by the victim’s son that his father was trapped in a rear bedroom and led them to the back of the home, said Fort Worth fire Lt. Gregg Russell.
“The son led the officers to the victim’s window, which they proceeded to break out,” Russell said in a news release Wednesday. “Officers pulled the disabled man from his bedroom window.”
The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. His condition was unavailable Wednesday morning.
A River Oaks dispatcher said that one of the officers suffered a minor cut.
Fort Worth firefighters responded to the blaze at 920 Churchill Road at 1:07 a.m.
Heavy smoke was coming out of the home when firefighters arrived, Russell said.
Firefighters battled the fire for about 30 minutes before it was brought under control.
Four people had been living in the home at the time of the blaze, fire officials said.
The blaze destroyed the home and damage was estimated at $46,000.
Cause of the blaze was under investigation, Russell said.
