Two Killed, One Hurt in Va. House Fire

Jan. 13, 2015
Heavy fire was visible from the house in Spotsylvania County.

Two people were killed and a third person was injured in a house fire in Spotsylvania County on Monday.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Sposa, fire units responded to a home in the 13000 block of Fox Gate Drive for a residential structure fire around 5 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, he said, they saw heavy fire coming from the house and there was a report of victims trapped inside, Sposa said.

He said firefighters were able to get to the second floor of the house and found two people who had died as a result of the fire.

A third person was located with burn injuries and transported to a local hospital, he said.

The cause and exact location of the fire is under investigation, he said. The names of the victims were not released.

This is the second local fatal fire in two days.

An elderly man died in a house fire in Louisa County early Sunday morning. A woman was rescued by a neighbor who saw the flames from across the street and helped her escape.

According to a Charlottesville news station, the fire started around 4 a.m. at a home in the 2100 block of Zachary Taylor Highway.

The house was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, WCAV reported.

The highway was closed for several hours while they cleared the scene.

No new details or the identity of the victim have been released in that fire, but it has been reported that it may have started from a woodstove in the home.
