Texas Women Seriously Hurt in House Fire

Both were unconscious when Fort Worth firefighters rescued them.

Two women were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital on Friday afternoon after being seriously injured in a house fire.

The fire damaged a residence in the 4300 block of Martin Street shortly before 3 p.m.

One woman suffered primarily burn injuries, and the other suffered primarily from smoke inhalation, said Lt. Kyle Falkner, a Fire Department spokesman. One woman is thought to be in her 90s, while the other may be in her 60s or 70s, Falkner said.

Fire crews were called to the scene on a report of smoke showing from the outside of the house, Falkner said. A second unit on the scene conducted a search and found the first victim; a company that arrived a little later found the second victim, Falkner said.

Both women were unconscious and unresponsive when they were brought outside. Paramedics performed CPR before taking them to the hospital. Both woman were in critical condition, Falkner said.

Fire Department investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire, but most of the other firefighters and equipment have left the scene, Falkner said.

The interior of the residence sustained significant fire and smoke damage, Falkner said. Red Cross volunteers came out to help anyone who might have been displaced by the fire, Falkner said.
