Five Dead After Va. House Fire

Five people escaped from the Chesterfield County home before firefighters arrived.

Five people escaped a Sunday morning house fire in Chesterfield County that left five dead.

Heavy fire was coming from the attached garage when firefighters arrived 3401 Wicklow Lane around 3:15 a.m. The fire had already extended to the house.

Five residents had escaped from the burning home before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters pulled five occupants from the home by fire crews, but four of them were pronounced dead, according to a release from the fire department. A fifth was pronounced dead at VCU Medical Center.

A firefighters suffering minor burns was taken to the hospital.

The Chesterfield County fire marshals and police are working to determine the cause of the fire.
