Man Killed, Four Hurt in Chicago Parking Garage Fire

Fire in a Chicago parking garage killed a roofing worker and injured four others Saturday afternoon.

According to a report from Chicago 5 NBC News, the fire broke out in a River North high-rise as workers for a roofing company were working on the elevator penthouse rooftop area.

Four of the roofers were seriously injured and \, not knowing how many patients they may have had, fire crews called for 10 ambulances to respond as a precaution, according to news reports,

Two of the four injured workers were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the two remaining were treated at local hospitals.

Deputy District Chief Cynthia Herring told the TV station it took about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire in the Mart Parc Orleans Garage at 437 N. Orleans St.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Herring, who added that winter weather may have been a factor.
