A Carroll County firefighter has been charged with setting brush fires in the area last year.
Allison Nicole Creutzer, 20, of Eldersburg, was arrested Saturday night by the Baltimore Environmental Police who participated in the multi-agency investigation.
Creutzer, a volunteer firefighter with Reese, was charged with intentionally setting fire to grass, brush, and woodland, three counts of second-degree malicious burning, and one misdemeanor count of calling in a false report of a fire, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Last March, an investigation started into a string of intentionally set outdoor fires while others occurred on May 14 and June 8, 2023. Creutzer also called 9-1-1 on May 8 to report smoke in the area of the Liberty Reservoir bridge.
When the fires were set, she was a member of Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department. However, she was suspended last summer when the department became aware of the probe.
Creuzter then joined Reese Volunteer Fire Department. She wa released on unsecured bail.
"I want to make clear that this one person's alleged actions in no way reflect upon the thousands of dedicated career and volunteer firefighters who serve our communities—especially our volunteers who give of themselves and their time to serve Maryland. I'm disappointed, but the acts of one do not disparage the work and sacrifices of those who serve," stated acting State Fire Marshal Jason M. Mowbray.
